I was a lot like Jilly as a kid. I wished that I had half the talent that came so naturally to her sister Sally and I was a hopeless romantic who couldn't wait to fall in love. I think that I romanticized the idea of being in love that I was more enamoured with the potential of it all, rather than what was right in front of me. I think that I grew up confusing the difference between longing, yearning, love and safety. I think as an adult I view them all as such a nuanced experiences that sometimes overlap but I see myself in Jilly. There is a part of me that will always romanticise falling in love; and I think the best art really does a splendid job of capturing that feeling, whether it's a deeply affectionate song lyric, or an enemies to lovers plot, or mish mash of brush strokes rending a fleeting embrace, it calls to every corner of my heart.
